January Favorites 2018

Read in English      Beri v slovenščini

January in Slovenia wasn’t as cold as I’d expect, even though we just got a fresh shipment of snow – and it’s about to get real wintery up here. Anyway, since I’ve got really dry skin and the cold weather only makes it worse – I have accumulated a few product that keep my skin soft and myself warm during the winter months.

    1.     Afrodita’s Age Defense Cotton & Silk Nourishing Cream is honestly the best thing that has happened to my face during winter. It’s great for dry (especially if you’re prone to ‘flaky skin’ when you put on your foundation or BB/CC cream) and sensitive skin. Extracts of cotton, silk proteins, and shea butter protect your skin and make it super soft and hydrated. Because it’s very ‘greasy’ I put it on before I go to sleep. I try to apply it about 30 minutes before I actually lay down because cotton pillow covers remove all the product you apply to your face.

It’s also great because it’s ‘age defense’ – not ‘anti-age’, which basically means it prevents premature aging, such as wrinkles. Once you get wrinkles you can’t get rid of them, you can try to minimize them with anti-age creams, but they do very little. So if you’re 20 + years old and have dry or combination skin – this is the best face cream to start with. Afrodita is a Slovenian company, and I swear on it. They have a wide range of creams and other products, and they are the best quality. I’d buy Afrodita face cream for 8 euros over some fancy 100 euros face cream any day.
You can buy this cream at Tuš drogerija, Muller and Mercator. Muller has the cheapest offer, I think it’s about 7 or 8 euros. You can also order it online for only 6, 30 e at Afrodita Cosmetics Shop
    2.     The second product is also from Afrodita Cosmetics – Afrodita’s WHY MASK SOS Calming with Lavender Essential Oil. This mask is great for all skin types, and it has a very calming effect on your face. I’m very picky with face masks, since a lot of them only damaged my skin – which is why so far I’ve only used one brand. But, I decided to give Afrodita’s masks a try, and I couldn’t be happier. What got me to try it was the fact that – it prevents skin to ‘over-peel’, it also helps with redness and puffiness.

I was skeptical at first, because the mask itself was very ‘creamy’. It was basically like putting on a face cream, not actually a mask. I left it on my face for 15 minutes, and my skin did get a lot softer, it also felt a lot smoother and not as dry as before. Plus, it smells amazing, and it warms up your face. You can buy this mask at Tuš drogerija and Muller, and also online for 1, 40 e at  Afrodita Cosmetics Shop. You get two packets of it, and you should probably use one whole packet per session, but there’s so much of it inside – I use half a packet per session, so I can have it for 4 uses.

3.     I always carry a L’Occitane hand cream in my bag. I love them because they’re so small you can fit them in any bag, plus they’re really high quality. This year I decided on L’Occitane’s Terre de Lumiere Radiant Balm for Hands and Body. It’s not as thick as their Shea Butter Hand Cream, which is my favorite, but since I work a desk job – I do most of my work on a computer – and the Shea cream, although great for dry hands, took too long to sink into the skin and my keyboard got all greasy. So, I chose Terre de Lumiere because it’s not greasy, it’s so silky, and it smells amazing – like honey from Provence. It also illuminates your skin with a slight sparkle. You can get it at Nama or your local L’Occitane shop.

     4.     Okay, this one isn’t particularly a ‘winter’ product. However, I know some people get fragile nails during the winter, mine are fragile because I’m 20 + years old and am losing collagen aka it doesn’t produce as much (the loss of collagen happens after 20, your nails become more brittle, your hair may thin-out, and you get your first wrinkles), and I found this great nail polish that made them hard as a diamond. Kiss Diamond Hard Strengthening Basecoat transformed my nails completely. In the first two weeks I’ve noticed a change, but my nails were still a little brittle, however, after a month my nails got hard enough for me to actually grow them out quite substantially and create an almond shape. I got mine at Muller.

    5.     And last but not least – my Ecoffee Cup Exclusive Design Line Poppy from Okay.si. At the office I like to make myself a cup of tea in the morning, but I can only make so much of it, and it gets cold pretty fast. This cup was the first thing I splurged on when I got my first paycheck, and it’s so worth it. It can hold 400 ml, which is almost half a liter. You can make boiling hot tea, and you won’t feel it on the outside of the cup. You get to seal the tea in the cup, and it stays hot for about half an hour, and warm for the next hour. It’s also eco-friendly since it’s made out of organic bamboo fibers, it’s biodegradable, and you can wash it in your dishwasher. Plus, it looks so cute.
